Wayne Rooney arrested. Absolutely zero sympathy!!
So Wayne Rooney has been reportedly arrested for drink driving. As professional footballers seem unable to manage their own behavior is a not time for a professional code of conduct which if they breach can see them facing bans from the game? These people are role models to our kids who seemingly get away with anything.
Surely it's time to set an example to our kids that drink driving, domestic violence, recreational drug taking etc will have consequences to these so called superstars? After all doctors and nurses can't engage in behavior likely to damage the image of their profession, so why not sportsmen and women?
Obviously this case has to be heard and so no per-judgement can or should be made.
But cases of drink driving (or under influence of 'recreational' drugs) are, to my mind, tantamount to attempted manslaughter (yes, I know no such charge exists in UK law!) and I believe convicted drink drivers should face a mandatory jail sentence.
