Arresting officer fired following nurse controversy
I don't know what this officer was thinking when he did this.
Imagine what would have happened without the video footage. Probably nothing and this officer would have got off everything. These police departments own body cams and other footage clearly shows a gross violation of authority. As it stands now he's on paid leave which is a bit of joke to considering he grossly violated his own rules.
This nurse is outstanding and very professional for sticking to the policy. She didn't cave into an officer who clearly had a god like complex.
This is why you have written policy in place otherwise you get people that have a wild west attitude trying to overstretch their authority.
Good on her for holding this officer accountable.
So, let me get this straight...this douchebag detective, Payne, who moonlights as a paramedic assaults & arrests this nurse who is following hospital policy & refuses to draw blood on an unconscious patient who just happens to be a cop from Idaho?
Thank God he got fired from that job. I wouldn't want this guy responding to ANY emergency I had. If he's willing to steal blood from a fellow cop who knows what he'd do to his own patients on-scene at an emergency...
Please don't mistake this as a solution. He wasn't fired from his Police job, but as a part time paramedic - not the position he was in when he assaulted this nurse.
He and the officer above him who later was recorded as saying something to the effect of, "give us the blood, and if it turns out we've made a mistake, it will all just 'go away."
Abusers of power. They got caught. They need to be terminated.
